Recover rear seat back cheap??? coupe same as sedan?
I have a 85 300 cd (coupe) and was wondering about the rear seat back.
Question 1 - Is it the same as a sedan seat back? Question 2 - Would it be feasible to buy a used seat back and try to replace it myself? And by feasilbe, I mean cheap and relatively easy. With Palimino, would it be obiviously a different shade..... depending on sun exposure, etc... Question 3 - Anyone have a decent MB Tex Palamino seat back covering...

[quote] I think you need to remove seat bottom first, two red buttons pushed in simultaneously if possible, the front will pop up, then pull out, you'll then see three bolts holding the seat back on, one on each side and below arm rest, remove, then lift up. The seat backs on a CD are thinner so as to provide more room. I don't know if a sedan seat back would bolt in anyway, may be different widths as well.

It may be hard to find a coupe seat back in a colour you want although your color thankfully is predominant. Or perhaps secondary to blue. I also imagine sun rotted backs are common in your area. If the rest of your seat back is pretty good you might be able to modify or use part of a sedans rear seat cover.
This may involve having a shop resew it up for you as well. Best way to get the accurate color match. Otherwise probably big bucks. I feel there might not be a lot of coupe donars around. Maybe in your area things are better and salvage cars more common. You might try advertising in our parts wanted for that seat back. Up here in the north we do not experience as much sun attack. So the chances are better of getting a good one. Thankfully because these cars where expensive a lot where kept in garages as well. Last edited by barry123400; 10-04-2007 at 04:54 PM. |

thanks so far
Thanks for the replies so far. It sounds like the coupe has a unique seat back due to the lesser depth...
Any more feedback on the "shade" of the Palamino I might get from another vehicle. I am not worried too much about it, and now that a new one would probably be further off...

I also have a coupe with a blue interior and the top of the rear seat is sun burned. I searched in vain for another seat back with no luck and have decided to have a cover made from an upholstery shop to cover the unsightly mess. I can't afford to have the whole seat done in leather but could afford to have a cover done which would just cover the top part of the seat back.

I am pretty sure the back seat is completely different than a sedan. A sedan seat might fit though. If you put a sedan seat in there adults will lack headroom as the roof on the coupe is 2" lower.
