Presumed dead S350 diesel..... Look or Run?

There is a very nice S350 sitting in a driveway in a town near me.. It has been parked without moving for almost 1.5 years.... It's an S350 Turbo according to the trunk....

Ten guesses what's wrong with it.......

Would it be easily possible to put the standard 603 out of an SDL in this? or is the 140 diesel electronic like the 606 engines? will the 3.5L tranny work with a 603 3.0?

I'm remotely, barely, fleetingly thinking of getting it for my mom.. If the motor's blown it should be a cheap acquisition..... It's got 18 inch or so rims with sport rubber.... I could probably sell them, get some respectable stockers with new all-season rubber, and have money to spare......

Basically, I want to know if I could get this, get a 603, swap, and be on the road in a week or two of work......

Cool. If he doesn't respond to this, I'll PM him.......

Looks like cheap, nice, diesel, mb.... usually those don't all happen in the same sentence.

I'm not afraid of the work.. I joke that I've built my 300SD from scratch because there is very little that I didn't fix/check/improve/upgrade/fabricate on that car..... I completely R&R the entire driveline except Diff & axles, radiator, rewired the car to fix the cut wiring harnesses by PO who started parting out the car, etc.....

I think I can handle a minor engine swap!

Depends on the true condition of the rest of the car and of course the present price. Spend some time really checking the car over before making a decision. I mean really checking not just kicking tires. Talk to the present owner and ask him questions. Some cars really prople should pay you to take. On the otherhand it could be a good car needing an engine.

If you can find a good 3L bottom end cheap, it should bolt right to the head.

A 140 sitting several years with 18s might give me the willies.

Bling, bling! What kind of 18's? Are they bling, bling chrome, or nice AMG's?

If you can get it for like $10 its worth it.

How about a W140 Super Turbo at least 300 HP to get it moving fast enough. The Finns haven't done one of those.

That would be totaly cool...until a totaly bone stock S500 walked on you. That 5L M119 is one STRONG V8, 0-60 on those is in the low 5 second range.

They must have some major HP. The W140 was the biggest S Class to date and must weigh in at 4200+ Lbs. They are huge cars.

LOL, not quite. The W140 S500 covers 60 a few ticks past 7 seconds. Its about as quick as an older 560SEL.

I think the W140 needs the might of the M120, IMHO. That's the engine that belongs in that car if you want some meat under the hood. The sound of that thing when you get on it, is heavenly. Basically, like two M104's joined together sharing a common crank.

Low 5 second sounded a bit too fast for me. I remember when Road & Track only got 6.4 seconds for the first gen. Porsche turbo. They later admitted that they had dumped the clutch too hard and it dogged on takeoff. It could really do right at 6 seconds.

How many gallons of premium do they consume during that 5-7 seconds?

However, I'd personally want a 600SEL. In a W140 I'd have to say...gotta have the V12....
