That's a great one...its good to know you can easily drop a 617 into that chassis. It's too bad the rest of the car isn't super clean, but it would be an excellent daily driver for sure and it would be nice to get 25 MPG out of that chassis.

I'm not a big fan of these hacks (although this one appears to be a decent job). I wouldn't pay much for an engine with an unknown history in a beat up body. He will probably get a few $1000 from someone.

I like it enough that I looked on ebay for a SEC body.I know the history of my motor...:D

Hmmm.... If only I could get my 300CD outta here...

SwampYankee 10-05-2007 11:18 AM

That's pretty cool, looks to be a decent swap. It'll probably go for too much, like someone already said for a motor with unknown history, but for the right price I'd definitely like something like it. Good to know that the transformation isn't too difficult for when I'm flush with cash and time :)

300CD is pretty, I saw one today for the first time and was quite impressed.

gatorblue92 10-05-2007 11:35 AM

its nice but i like a W123C better

quickervicar 10-05-2007 11:52 AM

If only that thing had a manual tranny...

quickervicar 10-05-2007 12:25 PM

How was the tach driven on the OM617? Would the replacement tach/clock included in the auction even work with the diesel?

cbeaner007 10-05-2007 12:33 PM

I even know what to call it:

"FRANKENDIESEL"!!!

He doesn't mention changing out the differential. I would think that would have some pretty tall gears for a 617 to turn. It may do 80 without vibrations, but how long did it take to get there? My guess is a 240D auto would blow its doors off......Great fuel milage though

quickervicar 10-05-2007 01:11 PM

Anyone have the rear axle ratio chart for the SECs? ForcedInduction?

dieseldiehard 10-05-2007 04:48 PM

diff ratios: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showpost.php?p=1624782&postcount=2

That looks like a good install, I know one person (not me!) who is intereted except the car is on the other side of the Rockies

stock gears 2.47:1
I'd be happy with it if the engine is strong. I love the 2.88 in the 123's and a 126 has a little less wind drag but more weight so maybe it would feel a little slow off line but it would come into its own at over 85 MPH :):)
