What's this gizmo ?
 
On passenger side, in front of coolant tank. Vacuum hose was broken, so
I replaced it. Didn't notice any differance how the car ran. Maybe someone could tell me what it is and does. It is in center of picture.

Vacuum switch-over valve for air recric valve on turbo.
Must be a California version.

Allows air to intake to be blocked in order to have more EGR gases into the engine
