Well, drove from Jersey to Texas with nary an incident...

I did say nary.. I left 7am Thursday am. My first stop was around 1pm for fuel and a break for myself and my dog. After 15 minutes or so, back into the car and switch the a/c on.... Bad news. Compressor seized. Luckily I switched it off quickly as to not chew up the belts. So what to do. I can't keep traveling in the 90+ degree heat and bake myself and the dog, so I sat at a rest stop in West Virginia til around 5:30pm. I figured I'd get the majority of travel done at night. So under the cloak of darkness, I follow the gps directions that my friend's system leads me on. Down thru Kentucky, Alabama down to I-20 and across Mississippi and Louisiana into Texas by noon Friday. I should be starting the new job on Monday, but in the mean time, I need to find someone in the D/FW area to replace my compressor, dryer, expansion valve and flush the system. I knew the previous owner had used a junkyard compressor. I just hoped it held out for the trip. Other than that, I averaged 27.6mpg for the trip and didn't burn a drop of oil.

What part of Texas?

Most of the parts you need are cheaper to get online. I paid $220 for a new Hodyon (Hancock Ind) compressor, $10 for BG Frigiquite oil, $33 for Freeze-12, $20 for an expansion valve, $25 for a drier, $10 for two gallons of methanol for the flush, $20 for a high/low pressure switch and $20 for the aux fan temp switch.

The compressor, oil, and Freeze-12 were bought locally, the rest online.

Boy, I put in a hard days work {though for only 3 more weeks }, come home, hop on the computer and find out that Ralph and Dan are having a garage sale. Out of my garage!!!!
Now that you're in Texas, I've got a couple guys you need to be watching out for......
Dan, you bring that W116 over here, and I'll have your compressor done in time for next summer.
BTW Dan, I need to borrow your valve adjustment wrenches at some point. Good chance I might even give them back when I'm done.

I'll bring the wrenches by as soon as I run the valves on the new SD. Want the dial guage as well to check chain stretch?

You see, we're pretty good folks down here in Texas. Just bad about thread hijacking.

Well heck, he hasn't been back since this morning, so I guess it is our thread until he returns and tells us where he's at.
I hope the SD chain of title comes through. Scary dude you bought that from.
I need to pick up the implement one day, so I'll just get them then. I don't really know how to do the dial method off-hand......

Yes, he was one scary individual. I suspect the FBI will be picking him up anyday now.
Title should be here in a few days per the state. I insisted on new plates.

I have some home made wrenches, if you need them, Jimmy. Nothing wrong with a garage sale in some one else's garage. It's like spending someone else's money! Besides, it's fun!

Just moving into my place in Arlington today. Finally back on line today. The weather has been tolerable but I need to fix it ASAP. I'll start looking for the compressor, dryer and expansion valve. Should I forget about recharging with 134 and use that R12 replacement since it has to be flushed anyway ?
