Rack dampner

Greetings,

I'd like to start my first ever thread with raising my hat to this incredible forum and all of you MB lovers and your wealth of information.
I have a question regarding the rack dampner. While I was replacing the old one on my 81SD today, I noticed it to be covered in oil. Is this normal or is there a problem within the IP.

Welcome to the forum.

Just to be clear, is it leaking oil (not normal) or is the end inside the IP covered with oil (normal because the IP is lubricated with engine oil)?

There is oil inside the injection pump where half of it lives. 100% normal.

I didn't notice any oil on the ones I took out, there may have been some on the pin, not enough to notice.
