Thumbs up Inexpensive oil change pump

Having spent the last 40 years of my life crawling under cars to drain oil and replace oil filters, I was happy to discover last year that my new-to-me Mercedes could be serviced from above. The question was whether to make an oil sucker as many here have done or buy one. I was ready to buy and modify a garden sprayer (using my surplus-store vacuum pump as the source of suction) when I spotted a ready-to-use pump in the Harbor Freight catalog for only $26.

I bought one and tonight used it for the first time. It works great! It holds 2-1/2 gallons, which is perfect for the M-B. The tubing that came with it was soft and I was afraid it would simply collapse under vacuum, so I replaced it with stronger tubing that I had on hand. After sucking out the oil, I pulled the drain plug to see how much oil was left in the pan. Answer: none!

Best of all, the pump is currently on sale -- only $20! Item 45403-1HVH on page 7 of catalog 660-B, right next to the Solar Mole Chaser (get rid of them pesky Solar Moles).

Disclaimer: I am not associated with Harbor Freight except as a customer. The "Easy Oil Change Pump" is made in China and likely painted with lead-based paint: don't let the kids chew on it.

Caveat: My use of the "Easy Oil Change Pump" does not constitute an endorsement of the magnetic "Fuel Master" ("save gas and increase engine efficiency") on page 11 of the same catalog.

Also in the photo: Hella H4 + H1 headlamps with X-Pel protective plastic film and brand-new headlight doors!

Jeremy

Do they have any Lunar Mole Chasers? The solar moles down here aren't as much of a problem as the lunar ones.

WHAT!?!?!? You mean that Fuel Master does not work? I was going to use it with the 200mpg diesel carburettor plans I found on the internet.

I think the top-siders are just fine for these cars if you get it hot....I found when I pulled my pan that a 1/2" layer of oil remains in the bottom of the pan anyways, and it had moisture slime on it. You'd suck that out with the topsider....I am just too cheap to buy one. I have a new pan now, so no sludge.....and I use synthetic, so maybe there won't be anymore in there now.
