82 sd alternator removal

Can someone direct me to instructions for removal of the alternator? It will be greatly appreciated!

I usually have no problem taking things apart. Seems there is a little over engineering going on here!!

I did a search for "Alternator Removal" and clicked "subjects only" and limited the search to "diesel discussion." You will find a lot more if you vary the keywords and search posts as well (but you will have more to sift through). Others will suggest using an advanced google search with this site as the target to search.

Removing your alternator should be the same as on any of the other turbo 5 cylinder diesels from 81-85, maybe the non turbo ones as well, so you can look for posts on any of those cars (300D Turbo, 300SD, 300TD Turbo) and you can use the same info.

By the way, it is a pretty simple job, just a couple bolts and getting the tensioner out. I'd just describe it, but now I can't remember exactly.

really simple. except for the fact that you need to put a new belt on when you rebuild the alt... for this, you have to pull all other belts off. so you now need to find info on pulling the ps belt, and the a/c belt. all are basically the same though. *(except that the alt needs two belts that MUST match exactly) basically, three bolts from the back side of the accessory you are loosening, and a tensioner to adjust the belt tension. for removal of the alt, it's usually easier to remove the entire adjustment bracket. just take all three bolts out of the alternator. done.
