Alternator problem?
Just got in with a question. My battery light is lit when the car is running. It is very dim, and it doesn't seem to change with the speed of the motor, maybe just a hint brighter as you go faster. I only noticed it as it was starting to get dark, thats how dim it is. Yesterday, it was NOT on, but we had about an inch of rain. It is parked in the garage, so it wasn't sitting in the rain, just maybe 75 miles or so. Any thoughts? It runs great, with no changes from before this.
Thanks for everyones help! Matt |

Don't know the car, but a 123, or 126 will exhibit this when the voltage regulator is failing. An easy, cheap fix.

I'm sorry, this is a 1985 300D. I thought it was supposed to come up automatically on my post. I'll check my info.
Sorry, Matt |

VR...or...
I used a Sears cross-tip (Phillips) offset ratcheting driver to get into the tight spot for that one screw (see other threads with pix). About $8 but handy. Comes in a flat tip version as well.
When you get the old VR out, check the length of the brushes. If still about 1/2" long or longer, it could be something else. Assume before you did anything you checked the belt for adequate, not excessive play. Also check to see if the V sides of the belt are super shiny or silverly looking. Could indicate slippage. Check sheave to shaft, as above. Good luck.

Check all of the connections while you are at it. Make sure you have the right amp altenator.
