Citric Acid source?

Wheres a good place to get citric acid for my upcoming radiator flush adventure?

I need the usual dose of 2.2 lbs.

Can I find it locally or is it a mail order only type of deal?

Thanks,
dd

Diesel Giant sells it. Also might try your local MB dealership. If you search locally, try candy makers, wine makers and possibly soap makers. I saw some at a local wine producer and they had some for the home producer.

If you can find a "real" hardware store, like a Tru Value (not Home Despot), they may have it. I found some in small (100 gm) packets at a local middle eastern grocery store for about $1 a packet. That's $10/kilo, with no shipping costs.

What the citric acid from the middle eastern grocery store used for? You sure it's the same citric acid in concentration needed for cleaning the radiators?

I searched True Value and Ace hardware for "citric acid ", neither one returned any results.

"Natural Food" type store may have it. I went through ebay.

Just guessing, but I suspect any food grade citric acid powder purchased will be of such a purity that the concentration variance from one source or another will be insignificant when compared to dissolving in water to add to the coolant system. What is the concentration of sugar is in a 5lb bag of sugar?

Is $1.40/ lb (50 lb bag) a good price?

I got my 2.2 lbs. from a local homebrew and wine supply (Keystone Homebrew). It cost under $7 and no shipping.

Citric Acid is used in winemaking to ajust acid levels. In cooking it's used as an antioxidant. Sprinkle some on fresh fruit and veggies to keep them from turning brown.

If you buy a 50lb. bag, I think you will have a hard time finding stuff to use it up on, unless you repack into 2.2lb bags and sell it to others wanting to do a coolant flush

Here is the web site where I got mine

I got mine @ www.bulkfoods.com

It was a little over $12 for a five lb. bag. I bought five of them because the shipping was free for an order of over $50. So I have a lifetime supply and then some. If any of you are in the same local you might buy it like I did and split the cost.

If I cant find it locally, then thats my place. Not too bad. I may just order it from there - I think it'll be weekend after next until I get a chance to play around with this.
