W126/ 300sd wiper motor is working, wipers are not

Can anyone point me to a good DIY for repair of wiper motor linkage for a 1982 300sd? Last night, my wipers stopped working...although the motor is still working. The connecting rod is probably the culprit...but I do not know how to get the plastic cover/ grill off to access the wiper motor and other connections. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't figure it out either, but mine are fine. I think there is a nut under the cap on the splined stud, can't lift that either.

John,
If you PM your email address to me I'll send you a couple of attachments with the instructions. They're too big for the site mail.

worn out wiper assembly linkage

Thanks to jbaj007, I was able to get to the wiper motor and assembly last night. Unfortunately, the linkage on the assembly is worn out. Unless someone has an idea on how to repair the worn out ball and cup for the wiper assembly linkage. If I can repair great. If not, I am looking for a wiper assembly for a 1982 300SD...I do not need the motor...just the assembly. I have seen a few on e-bay but the price is out of sight. I would not pay more than $50.

go to your local junk yard, they should have some old SD`s laying around.

Pick N Pull is always good. practice on their cars first.

Same thing happened to one of my 123's, there was no fix to it, replaced with one from the bone yard, as charmalu mentions. If anyone knows about the compatibility of the 123's vs. a 126, I have said linkage I pulled from a 300TD, 123.

^ What car?

Check the nut on the wiper arm itself.

Not sure about a Gen 2, but the metal cap covering the nut and spline lifts up to reveal it.

Easiest way I have found to lift the cap on a W123. Raise the wiper arm straight up. hold onto the cap, as the arm is lowered back towards the glass, the cap will lift up to reveal the 13mm nut.
