Diesel Fuel leak from around inline fuel filter

OK let me first say I don't have a lot of experience with working on my car's engine yet and I'm not quite sure what the name of the part is that is leaking. I will try my best to describe my issue. On my '82 240D, close to the fuel distributor, next to the see-through mini inline fuel filter, there is a small part that has a screw top that is cylindrical in shape. The inside of the cylinder is always filled with fuel and the outside shows signs that it leaks out of it. The top is screwed down as tight as it will go. I don't know but it could be a manual fuel pump but I'm not sure. I hope someone knows what I'm describing. Anyway, if needed I can go and take a pic tomorrow in the light.

My issue is that this part is leaking fuel. Is there a way I can tighten something down or does it need to be replaced altogether? Thank you in advance for any help.

sounds like your primer pump leaking. click on the parts tab above.
you probably have the old style, you will get the up dated one, much
better.

Thanks

Ok I was right, I thought it was the hand pump.

I searched for that part through the 'buy parts' tab above, however I couldn't find it there. I did a search for an 82 240D, under 'fuel delivery' and couldn't find it. I found both of the fuel filters though. Any suggestions?

I just wanted to say thanks again even though it's been like 7 months since I replaced this part...but I ordered it through the forum and it's a great part, much nicer than the original...and it works! Quick fix and not a lot of fuel leaked.

Wow, nice update!
I too wanted to replace my primer pump, and ********az sent me the old style one

So I kept putting up with the leak for a few months, and just recently swapped em out...and am rather pleased! Even though I have the old style, it works as it should and that is a world of difference.

I have heard the old style ones are more resistant to BD than the new, any thoughts?
