87 300TD trans vacuum modulator MAP help

i'm having trouble identifying which hose goes where... right now I have harsh shifting... i'm trying to trace the path of the vacuum from the transmission to the source... right now I can't seem to find a hose coming from the trans... looking from the engine compartment...(don't have a lift right now)... what is (A)? what is (B)? there are 2 tubes coming out of (B)...

the pic below is the vacuum booster(?)... does it have anything to do with the transmission modulator?

i've been trying to make sense of the article in the DIY section... but it seems it's a different unit... so my first step is to trace my connections so I can better understand the article... thanks guys!

In the second photo, there is a hose with a green damper on it. The port should be labeled "TRA". This is the line to the transmission. Follow it and confirm.

I'm not sure why the green damper is on that line. The SDL's don't have it.

(A) is the vacuum fuel shutoff. Line A comes from the key or "ignition" switch. It shuts off the engine by killing the fuel supply.

The blue disk thing is a vacuum amplifier. I don't understand how it works but it is involved with controlling the transmission. The green thing B is probably another vacuum damper. Make sure it's not cracked (leaking) or plugged up. It should be just an empty cylinder with an inlet and (you say) two outlets.

Check all of the vacuum lines, be sure they fit tightly on whatever it is they go on and are not cracked and leaking.

By the way, the metal bracket with the piece of rubber in it, just to the right of (A) in your first picture, is supposed to be 180 degrees from the way it is in the picture. The bracket holds the fuel lines to the injectors, keeps them from vibrating until they crack. The intake manifold has a whole series of those brackets. Most of mine were missing and I replaced them, the dealer can get all of the parts and pieces.

Jeremy

It will look similar to the photo in this post:

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showpost.php?p=1656606&postcount=35

However, that's on an older W-126. The W-124 won't be identical.

quick update:

i managed to attach a new vac line from the tranny to the vacuum amplifier. It drives like a whole new car! BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGG difference. I've gotten so used to harsh shifts that driving and not feeling the shifts creeps me out. haha
