Could someone please explain the term “nailing” as it refers to diesels? And what about “knocking” as some people have described previously? I know about knocking due to pre-ignition in a gas engine, but a diesel? Or are they just referring to the typical diesel sound at idle speed?

Just to make this post longer (as if that’s needed) one of my favorite ‘tag’ lines: “Ignorance is due to the lack of information; Stupidity is the lack of ability to utilize information.” Perhaps I need to include it in my postings while I learn more about the diesels.

Signed,
Ignorant, but working on it
