Help Priming 606
Looks like I'll have to replace either the fuel lines or o-rings to remedy a fuel leak. Either way I need advice on priming the fuel lines of air. I previously owned a 617 and since it has a primer pump I found it easy to prime. The 606 on the other hand I have no experience in priming it since I just bought the vehicle two months ago. Thanks.

Is pretty easy. Turn key to pos 2 and glow it, then to pos 3 and manually crank it for 30 seconds at a time, resting 10 secs between cranks to let starter cool a bit. You can do that 3 or 4 times in a row and then should let it sit and cool off for 20-30 minutes.
Once it appears it is catching KEEP cranking another second or two before disengaging the starter, it wont hurt the starter and being absolutely certain it catches the first opportunity provides less wear on the battery and starter motor. Parking nose downhill with more than 1/2 tank of fuel helps too.

Funny you should ask...
Well, I just wandered back into the house after changing all but one of the lines and using viton. (did not change one way under IM at this point)
Finally found a puddle of diesel under her this morning. I cranked once for about 20 second, let her rest some, came back and gave another 20 or so, rested went again and she hit, so I would concer that no serious priming is needed. If I were also changing the filter today I would fill it before putting on. Now I need to go hose the engine compartment down, due to diesel drool and double check for leaks.

If you fill the filter first, with what? be sure it is filtered. Easy to use ATF from a new container, pretty likely to be properly filtered.

Quote:
I usually slip the filter into position first, then fill it just before I line it up and put the bolt in...that way you can fill it to the top without spilling any while trying to install it.
