Loose accelerator linkage

I'm honestly not sure wassup here. My foot on the floor is feeling some resistance in the throttle, as I push toward the floor, so I looked at the linkage and discovered a couple of things.

First, the piece that is against the firewall, has a rod that seems like it *was* sitting in some kind of plastic fitting at one time. It all feels pretty loose where this rod goes into the fitting here (wiggle, wiggle):

Is it missing something?

Also, this "plate" piece slides up and down ultimately because this same long rod seems kind of loose from the fitting at the firewall... is it supposed to do this?

OK, sorry I'm not really literate with the correct terms for these pieces, but thanks for looking, much appreciated!

-Chuck

Classic symptom. Replace that bushing on the firewall. It's $45 to $50 at the dealer.

Thanks, MBeige. Just came back from a little trip out to the mall with the family in the ol' 300D (Frances). I notice a definite "thunk" now in the throttle linkage under my foot. So will look for this bushing now, thanks.

Looks like we're talking about this one:

and maybe this, though I'm not positive:

In your second pic there are two rectangular holes directly above your red printing. On my 240 there are two "forks' on the end of the rod that go into those holes. There should be bushings that fit into those rectangular holes where the "forks" fit with a minimum amount of slop. I dont see those forks in your pics so I'm not sure whats going on at that end.
I had to replace those bushings on my car to get normal throttle back.

Your '82 300D will need the part in the first pic That large round bushing is what holds the white plastic cylinder in your first pics. When doing the throttle linkage in that area also check that the 10mm nut is tight. Looseness of this nut will also result in throttle linkage play.
