not sure where to post this....so

I have recently come across a 230e(wdb12322312144367) in fair shape at the boneyard(anyone need anything?).Since it is a 123 body i assume some things can be used to replace on my 300D.what about the rear end though?anyone know the gear ratio for the 230E as opposed to the 300D?Also what about the steering box?will it bolt into(and work normally) the 300D?

Crawl underneath and you'll find final drive ratio stamped into smooth metal strip like serial number along backside edge of MB pumpkins.

230E will have the same sloppy nylon bushed steerage box as rest of 123's. Need one from 114/115/116 for retro-upgrade if you wanna replace what you've got with best available parts.

will it just bolt right on in place of the original?no extra "rigging"?

Redrilling sheetmetal fender well and adding 1/8" shims inside to line up steerage box is all the rigging that's required. Same outfit in Germany that built em for 114/115/116 also built 123 steerage boxes.

But first you probly oughta try to adjust existing steering box to take up slack. Reconnoitre 1/2 - 3/4 turn *counter* clockwise on allen inside collar nut. Paint marking allen to original position is wise.
