Red face Little Help Please

I have fallen in love with this beautiful 220 D The chassis number is W115 and the engine number is OM615. it burns about a quart in a thousand highway miles, but I am told that is totally within spec for a car of this vintage???!? I am also told that they wanted residual oil in the upper cylinder/valves so a bit of crankcase blowby was engineered into the design.

I am not a mechanic, just a simple sole who is in love with this 1972 classic Benz. I have to fly to Colorado and drive it back to Austin, TX where I live. I am buying this car from a friend , Pitansk as he is know on this site, and I trust him. I realize this is an old car, but if any one could advise me on this purchase I would appreciate any advice you may have.

All i know is that if my 01 Toyota was burning 1 quart in a 1000 miles I would be in trouble! Any comments or help are greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Claytor

I think a quart per thousand miles falls into spec for most new car manufacturers actually.

Check the oil often and drive. How many miles are on it now?

BEWARE: THESE THINGS ARE ADDICTIVE

Unhappy

Miles?

Pictures of undersides of wheel wells, etc. This thing may be rusted out, or bondo'ed everywhere, to hide the repaired rusted-out areas. Check under floor carpeting for rusted areas.

If the car is wearing freshly painted lower side panels or undersides........run like hell! You can bet on a car this old, up north, being a rust pit..

Thanks

This car is a california garage kept car. There is no rust , for the age and I spoke with the mechanic who checked it out in Colorado and he said he thought about buying it. All I needed to hear was that a quart per thousand falls remotely close to some one s specs. I bought the ticket and will be back with the car on Monday (with any luck) Thanks for the help fellas, wish me luck!http://s76.photobucket.com/albums/j5/pitansk/Bluecar/

By the way check out the shots at this link....
