Brake hoses don't fit.. or do they?

I'm in the process of changing my calipers and brake hoses on my 1983 300D, and I noticed that when the hoses thread into the caliper, they do not snug down on the caliper body. Even though there was a copper washer included on the rebulid, there is about 1/8th inch of a gap. Is this correct? Do you use some kind of thread locker or teflon or anything on this? Just pitch the washer?

The rebulit calipers are bendix and/or ATE. It is the same situation front and back.

It's getting dark...

Thanks.

The hoses will tighten on the threads when twisted into the caliper. They will not seat on any copper washer. The threads are some type of Metric pipe thread.

Thanks. I am just use to other makes and the hose usually tightens against the caliper and seals with a copper crush washer, or they use banjo bolts.... and the calipers came with a copper washer....

so no thread locker or sealant?

Thanks again, this forum is a lifesaver

BEST BRAKE TIP LEARNED ON THE FORUM??
bolting the front hub to the (removed) wheel/tire in order to remove the rotor allen bolts.. easy as pie and a one man job!!!

I've never used threadlocker or sealant. I suppose you could use some teflon sealant if you're inclined. I definitely would not use threadlocker or you'll never get them out again.
