How different are the transmissions from the non turbo 77/78 300D's

I found a low mileage rebuilt transmission from a 77 or 78 300D and was wondering if this transmission would work in my 84 300D? I don't have much transmission data from the early 123 models to cross reference.

No vacuum control modulator on my 1978 300D transmission. This thread might help.

If you can help with a firm first shift (2-3) I'd love to hear about it. I'm living with it for now as it seems to be better for the tranny than flaring. I'm sure it will hasten the wear of the flex discs but cheaper to replace than the transmission.

They are two completely different transmissions.

What Motorhead said. I am not sure they are the same length. The earlier transmission may not stand the extra load, although there was the 722.120 version on the W116 300SD that was designed for it.

I haven't heard back from the seller on the model number. It came from a 300D some I'm assuming its probably a 722.118. All 722.1's are of the same type, W 4 B 025 USA.
