linkage problem: getting ball out of socket?
So I'm replacing the plastic ball/rubber bushing assembly for the accelerator linkage. In order to connect up the new linkage I need to disconnect one of the old sockets from the metal ball that goes to the "pull rod" from the accelerator.
Now I'm stuck. How to you get one of those little balls out of the metal socket without breaking/bending something? thanks!!! Chuck

I use a Craftsman large screwdriver, wedging the blade between the rod with the ball on it and the edge of the socket, and then twist the screwdriver to pop the socket off the ball. I also always fill the sockets with grease (I use a synthetic brake grease for all these "exposed to the environment" bits under the hood that is a dark green color) after cleaning them out carefully (old toothbrush, WD-40 or the like, wipe out with at paper towel). After popping them back together (sometimes requires a jointed pair of pliers to make sure I am squeezing the socket in-line over the ball), I wipe off the extra grease. Good luck.

Got it.
Thanks, Jim! I just didn't want to break something that would ground my daily driver. Just got it put back together. As an aside: that new bushing assembly makes for MUCH better throttle response. Now more flipping the tranny into 'S' for city driving.
