Ebay seat score, what a difference!
I didn't think that I would ever get this lucky but stumbled upon a much better driver's seat for my 1985 euro W124. The old one was a mess as you can see. I even found part of a pillow stuffed in the corner when I removed it. The plastic on the outside was broke (most likely from removing it to stuff the pillow in it).
I picked the new one up along with the passenger and back seats for $60 and $40 in gas round trip to Bill Smith Auto parts in Danville, IL. I saved a lot on shipping! I had planned on using the passenger seat box but was pleased to find that I didn't need to. A woman or smaller guy must have driven the 260e they came out of. There is still lots of support, no weak springs, all the plastic and knobs were in good shape...it even has an armrest which mine didn't that I like using. The seat was nearly perfect except for a very small melt spot in the center of the seat bottom that I think I can touch up with some VLP and a little dye. I was a little bummed when I saw a scuff and very small cut on the passenger seat that happened while removing them but the VLP (used this stuff on my couch and it works great) sealed the cut fine. I have some Mercedes burgundy dye coming and all should be good. My passenger seat is fine so this one is in storage with back seat and there if I need them. I will use the old one to tear apart and get familiar with how the seats are put together. Overall, I am very pleased with this deal. It sure has improved my driving comfort and the looks of the interior. It made me look for floormats which I found marked down a little bit and bought. The only bad part is that I was "downsized" yesterday and my job that I held for 12 yrs is gone. Except for fixing my rear wheel bearing, all projects are on hold. mark Last edited by MarkWells; 11-11-2007 at 03:09 PM. |

Good score! Having a good driver's seat and steering wheel in the car is one of the most important things you need in the car, when you really think about it

I do hope that I am so lucky in finding Grey front seats and a lower back seat for my W126 1984 380 SE. Mine were redone once but they used a cheap leather with a plastic coating on it(would not let a leather cleaner/softener soak in at all...then or now) and now they are toast and the leather is so dry it cracks with little use.
I'd love to find seats as good as your score! I did just score on absolutely lovely (they look brand new) Grey Sun visors. I installed them yesterday morning....now if i could just find the seats out of the same car...... I did email the seller to see if he has the seats, he is close to me so the trip would be easy.

Good luck on finding the grey seats. Finding my seats within driving range sure helped a lot. I may be making an offer on a few parts off of the same car.
I agree about the importance of a good driver's seat...even more so now that I know what a good seat should feel like |
