Thumbs up Take this test on mechanical knowledge

I was on another forum and someone posted this test.
It's very cool and takes about 15 minutes.

I passed. I missed one, but the test ended before I answered all the questions.

I suck at reading wiring diagrams without a legend. I missed those questions

Ooh. I'd post results, but you all might think I'm full of myself. I'll just say that I did well.

I got 96%... Where do I apply? I'd like to know which ones I missed though... Probably the one the the pullies... I pretty much whipped through everything... That was fun though.

Some of the gear questions (how many rotations, etc) messed me up. Tried counting teeth but still got confused.

And how in the world were you supposed to do those ones where it gave the weight and asked "how much force" this or that pulley would require?

That was a fun test -- I took it over at the PointedThree forum. But a few of the questions were either ambiguously worded or simply didn't offer the correct answer as one of the choices. I believe that question about all the compounded pulleys was one of them.

It's very simple. You either multiply or divide by the number any times the rope is wrapped around the pulley (or attaches to its center), depending on where the weight is.

I failed.. with a 79... gay
I guessed on the ones with the pulleys.. I bet if I sat down and really tried I could score an 85%

I was thinking about going to the ford dealership by my house and seeing what it would take to be a runner or even an oil change guy... probably pays more than publix and could open up into mechanical work(not my main field of interest but I like it) plus.. fords always need to be fixed

IIRC from my physics classes, to figure the loads on the pullies, divide the weight by the number of vertical ropes (minus the one in your hand, except if you're pulling up and in that case count that one too). So it was 350kg / 5 vertical ropes = 70kg... Right? Someone help me out...

You got the mechanical advantage correct. The weight in the question was 250kg, so the answer is 50kg.

Its the number of ropes supporting the load.
