You can put it into pretty much anything if you have the right mechanical and fabrication skills.

1994 Ford Ranger, 1977 Ford E150, 1996 Dodge Dakota and a Snowcat are the first that come to mind.

I've got a 616 in my old Land Rover.

I'm currently building another long wheel-base Land Rover with a 617 turbo bolted to an NP435 transmission.

I wonder if the 617 can be installed into something ultra lightweight. more fuel economy , better performance and a bullet proof engine. something simple, but without issues, maybe like a 70 bmw 2002 or a honda crx??

I think your better off droping a VW 1.9 TDI motor instead.

I picked up a free 616 and I was kicking around the idea of dropping it in an old Willys flatfender Jeep. But then I dug into the motor and found out that moisture had gotten in and rusted the cam...

I'm in the middle of putting a 617 turbo in a 109" Land Rover using an American NP435 tranny. With that tranny it's possible to put this engine in just about anything, especially American trucks and Jeeps.

The engine is together
The bellhousing is done
The tranny is rebuilt
Rebuilding the transfer case right now

Hope to have everything bolted together in a couple of weeks.

these things are expensive, I thought about putting one in a small pickup but they want 2-3K for them.

is there a smaller 4cyl mercedes diesel available besides the 240?

I have a head and cam for the 616. Actually two, one for the 115 body and one for the 123.

Tell me about this bell housing ... is it something you made?
