Told NO Trap Oxidixer campaign by Winter Park Dealer...
I went to Winter Park Mercedes (FL) today for a few parts for my cars. While there I had the Service Dept run the VIN on my 1987 300sdl the only records for service was a roadside battery replacement in 2001. I was told there are no recalls or service campains on this car. It's VERY obvous the trap oxidizer is still on this car AND in there records it was never replaced. When I asked for the printout I was told it was "property of MB" and I could not have it. #^#~heads!
At least the parts people are cool. I'm going to try another dealer, does anyone have the campaign number? EDIT--- Actually it is Orlando Mercedes in Maitland, FL, next to Winter Park! Last edited by badgator; 12-05-2007 at 02:29 PM. Reason: To correct location |

I have the pipe from the manifold to the turbo if you want one, withOUT the trap. Better this way since you'll keep your catless downpipe too.

I think they just don't want to fix it.
Their Service Dept is a BIG $$$ money maker for them, probably the busiest of ANY brand dealer I've seen. Plus Valet parking and pull up to door for you when done, PLEEEEEZZZZ just shoot me!!!

Just replace it yourself. You'll probably save more time and energy.

You need to buy a brand new car from them, and then enjoy taking it there over and over for endless warranty work, and then, on your own dime, when the warranty is over. Or better yet, buy and lease ANOTHER new one when the warranty is done. You will learn to enjoy talking about your tennis game and how you got hammered in the stock market with the other Mercedes Benz service customers while sitting in the service reception area, drinking excellent cappuchino and nibbling biscotti, and leafing through the Wall Street Journal while you wait. Enjoying the Mercedes Benz experience.

Very well put. I would much rather hang out in my garage with the stereo cranking and/or a football game on and working on the vehicles. Save a ton of money and kind of enjoy the work. Knowing it was done right and having peace of mind when you and your wife and family are driving or riding in one of the vehicles. Again, very well put. jim 97 E300d 85 300sd 99 expedition

I heard a rumor that if a person guts out a trapoxidizer, it will give better off the line performance. But this would be for offroad use only of course.

The dealer can't do that. If they gripe complain that your trap ox is plugged and they have to swap it out, its EPA mandated.

Why people ignore me is beyond comprehension.

The trapox is before the turbo. Gutting it will destroy the turbo because there is no possible way to clean it out completely. It will hurt performance because it will be a very large expansion chamber to cool and slow the exhaust.

Gutting it will hurt performance on the low end by reducing the pulse intensity which the turbine could otherwise utilize, however on the high end it will probably help due to the more continuous flow through the turbine improving its efficiency.

No, it isn't. Not once 60k miles have rolled by, then you get to pay for the repair yourself.
