I'm back!

It's been quite a while...

So I went and looked at an 83 300D today that I found on Craigslist. It's kind of a hooptie, with a bit of body damage and almost 300k, but it is listed for $200 obo...and seems that the only problems with it are a dead battery and two tires that had the air let out of them by some punk kids.

So, tomorrow, I am going to go over there with an air compressor, a battery, and $100, and see what I can do!

I hope to be back in an MB diesel as of tomorrow!

It's mine!!

I went over this morning, and threw a battery in the car, and it fired right up after about 10 secs of glow. The engine runs fabulously, and the tranny shifts awesome.

And I got it for $100

How do so many people seem to do this. How?!? On our craigslist a guy has a 1974 W115 240d stick listed for $700. Needs: brake work, water pump, has some rust, and miles are unknown, and it doesn't start well when cold unless plugged in Amazing. I am going to look at it if he ever gets back to me, but I'll probably offer about $200-250....its also been sitting in a barn for 3 years.

And today, someone just listed a local 1985 300D with 167,000 on it, in very nice shape (in looking at the pics), but they want.....$4000! They're crazy!

Congratulations!

And at that price, I now feel even crappier about my 300D. :/ People in Washington think these things are made of solid gold.

Two or three tons would more accurately describe what it feels like.

So...to resurrect an old thread...I sold the $100 beater to a friend back in 2/2009...but...I really couldn't handle living without an MB Diesel...I tried the whole Honda thing for 5 months, but it didn't feel right...

So...I sold the Integra and decided it's time for a 300D...

Fortunately my good friend Mike (Miker300d) had an 84 300D sitting at his shop that they put a rebuild engine in. The car has 200k on it, beautiful body/paint and a decent interior...

Best of all...he sold it to me for $700!!!

So...I'm back in the saddle, and I don't think this one is going anywhere.

(pics coming soon...)

Good find. There is nothing around here that even comes close to those budget cars let alone a decent runner.
I had a line on a 300D for $500 but it had been in a wreck and was a tow only vehicle. The PO decided not to sell

Yeah, there's nothing in his area like that, either. This is the Northwest - Diesel Mercs are still regularly over-priced here. I was, and still am ecstatic to have found a turbo OM617 that runs and drives like a top for only $500, even though the rest of the car is almost completely worthless. It's the perfect turbo drivetrain donor for my '77.

I may have cause to be jealous, but I need to see pictures of this $700 gem, first.

240Demon, you know how this works. Pics, or the car doesn't exist!

Here is a real deal in central Indiana

1988 260E with reconditioned head and a new flex joint for $7195. Seller says it is currently on Ebay auction with a starting bid of $7195.00, but I didn't find it. Hope they aren't holding there breath.

With the continuious reduction of purchasing power of the dollar. Some of those lowball buys sound pretty good. Keep it up. From now on it could impact buying prices.

I will just say I noticed a guy brought a pretty fair example next time for 500.00. So why are you asking 3,000? Will report back on site after I am thrown off his property. Way to go anyways. Unfortunatly not too common...
