Need Alternator Advice. <complicated>

it is more complicated than it seems. this is the scenario.

the car body is a 1990 350sdl BUT the engine was changed some time back. it's been chewing up alternators for the past year for some reason.

the culprit was the wrong belt. specifically, it was too tight and was killing the alternator.

I need to know what kind of engine i have so i can buy the proper alternator and belt. The only clue i have is the part number on the head which is...

P 603 018 14 01 ... I do not know where to find the part number for the block so i am hoping the head number will be helpful.

So can anyone tell me what kind of engine i have and what 'year' and model i need to know so i can buy the proper parts online.

Thank you so much.

Jen

You have a 603.961 engine.

When you search for parts, look for a "1987 300 SDL".

..........not that complicated..........

The engine number is on the block just below the head on the drivers side just before the end of the block. It takes some looking but its there. I had to really clean mine before I could read it all.

thank you very much. happy thanksgiving.

i'd cook you a turkey but that wouldn't be a good idea since the last time it tried, I.....

1. threw away the metal clip to hold the legs together (the legs opened up and exposed the 'hole' making it the erotic turkey)

2. did not remove the plastic bag inside the turkey before sticking it in the oven.

3. stuck the pop up jig in the wrong part of the bird . well, it never popped up and it was in there for 3 hours leading to #4

4. almost burned the house down
