It may not be overtly racist, but it's sure not PC.

I think the inverse commercial would be more funny. Some foreign business traveler lands at JFK and has to fight his way through all the stereotype ugly americans until he finally gets to his benz.

PC, I think only applies in North america. Europeans somehow have a greater sense of logic and rationale and are more nonchalante about the things the enounter in the media.

ex:

Americans have higher safety standards in their vehicles because WHEN you get into an accident, it protects you.

Europeans simply are "don't get into an accident"

I prefer simplicity and prevention over redundancy.

Both are good.

Are these current, or should I say new commercials? Interesting that they use a 124 and 210. Wonder if we will see a 123?

Simply not true. Mercedes-Benz was developing shoulder/lap belts, air bags, and headrests to protect against whiplash long before American car makers did.

I had to watch it 3 times to "get it" because my German is elementary, but once I did I just laughed and laughed.

Completely untrue. American vehicle manufacturers have been behind European manufacturers for a looong time. Europe has very strict car/safety standards. They travel at autobahn speeds rememeber? They also have much more expensive insurance and drivers training. And the cost to get a car/insure it/register it there is huuuge. Since they have much better and more responsible drivers as well as generally safer cars, their rate of accidents and traffic deaths is quite a bit lower than ours....despite so many of them driving so much faster. Just goes to show....

Inspections on cars there are very stringent as well. Any flaws and you'll be fixing them or not be driving. Rust included.
