Vacuum Question (easy one)

So, recently my locks stopped working and the engine won't shut off. It's not the punp 'cause the brakes are fine, there's vacuum. Is there a component the locks and fuel shut off share on a 79 240d with a manual tranny?

All vacuum components are interrelated so a problem in one area will effect another. You'll need a MityVac to trace down the leak. You could disconnect the yellow line under the hood and plug the line it went into. That goes to the doors. If the car shuts off ok with the yellow line disconnected your leak is probably in the door/fuel/trunk system.

For some reason I thought the fuel shut off went directly from the pump to the ignition switch, then back to the shut off valve. Thios may take a little longer than I had anticipated. I'll try your suggestion.

You can test the fuel shut off itself by disconnecting the existing vacuum line, installing a section of vacuum hose long enough for you to suck on it. If you can shut if off with some strong sucks, you will know the shut off is ok and the problem is elsewhere in the system.

Or use a Mity Vac.

My 83 240d manual has the same problem. I just plugged off door locks until i can locate good info on diagnosing the lock system.

A leak anywhere in the vacuum system reduces the vacuum available everywhere in the system.
