300SDL KKK Adjustment

Just confirmed (By the KKK logo visible at the front end of my turbo...) that the SDL is equipped with a KKK instead of a garrett.

All the threads I can find about this beast are for the 617. As I have a 603, that isn't much help.

Is the KKK on a 300SDL wastegate prone to get stuck? I think mine is. Modified tire pressure gauge couldn't find more than 4 psi of boost anywhere.

Also... I've heard people say a KKK has an "Externally adjustable wastegate." Does that mean I can adjust it without having to take it off the car?

Thanks.

Works exactly the same as the 617. Loosen the nut and turn the screw CW to increase boost, CCW to decrease.

My KKK leaks like mad but boosts great to 13psi like it is supposed to do. No sticking issues here.

Try a real boost gauge before cranking it on up.

The plan is to take apart, rebuild, and clean before it goes back. just wanted to know if we had to perfect the adjustment on the bench somehow or if we could tweak it (with a proper gauge) after re-installation.

Wastegates on the 603 engine can get stuck partially open, thereby allowing boost to escape and not build up properly.
Do not try to disassemble the turbo itself, its factory balanced and you may never get it back together right if you attempt to disassemble it, just remove the assy and clean the wastegate flap if its got lots of carbon build up.

Question

Aren't they rebuildable? As in, you can buy seals and things and change them?

Let us ALL know if you can find the seals for the 603 KKK.

The wastegate actuator on the KKK turbo is removable. There are three 10mm bolts at the base of the actuator. Remove those and you can bench test the actuator, clean it and look at the valve seat for cracks.

Does this mean the oil leak I'm getting ready to fix is unfixable?

Meaning your turbocharger leaks internally? Yes, you're going to have a difficult time finding the seals. Hell, the reseal kit for the T3 is around $30

I THINK it's a K26. All the places I've asked want $500 to rebuild it (LOL) or are useless for help for a reseal kit.

Mine is sending oil through the crossover pipe and it's leaking out all over the place over on the turbo side of things. It's a K26 we think? I'll start sniffing out parts for a K26 and if we find out different, we'll go from there.

Ah, mine blows it hardcore out the tailpipe after a few minutes of idle time. I gave up the search and got an SDL T3 to run.

Would that by any chance bolt up to a Benz or would a custom mounting thingie need to be constructed? Found it whilst looking for seals and parts and such...
