Custom Hidden exhaust routing...

When I slam my SD, I'm going to need all the ground clearance I can get.
I'm building skid plates for the engine and tranny oil pans as well as one for the rear axle.

The only obstacle I face is the exhaust. My huge 3" exhaust system takes maybe 2 inches off my factory ground clearance.. and it rubs on speedbumps as it is.

ok, here it is.

What if, I routed the exhaust THRU THE ROCKER PANEL?

I'm customizing the car anyway and putting on new rockers. would a 2.5" (cuz 3: is too big)length of stainless pipe wrapped in header wrap placed down the length of the rocker with a plain tip nudgin out the rear end of the rocker but out the side (not in wheel well. like a viper sort of)

The attatched Image is just to show where I'm talking about...not what it's goiing to look like...

..or I might just run down the inside part of the rocker then cut away a bit at the end so it LOOKS like it's part of the rocker...yeah.....

In a true panzer you'd route it straight pipe thru the hood...

Awesome!!

I had actually thought about runnning straight left of the turbo out some cool looking vents in the fenders...but then decided against it.

I Like the eywbrows on this 124 lowered a bit TOO much for me, and the paintjob is cest fromage...

Is that oval spot by the rear wheel where the exhaust will come out? If so is it far enough away that you can still use your jack and will it weaken the jacking point?

Why would you take a beautiful Mercedes-Benz and lower it? A difference of taste, I suppose. To each his own, good luck.

just a thought... why not oval pipe? you can still get the volume and keep the clearance cause of the shape.

That is a 126, not a 124. That guy can probably not even drive that on normal roads. What is the point? Crazy.

If you want to lower the car like the w126 in the photo, and you like the paint job, you ought to check out Benzworld. Plenty of ricer MB's over there- they have the "expertise" you need.

How do you plan on getting it there? Routing it under the frame of the body is going to take up even more ground clearance and add alot more tight bends to the system.

Whats wrong with using a 2.5" exhaust through the stock routing?

well met, lance.

However. what if I routed the exhaust down it's assigned path to the point of the rear of the rocker then jutted left instead of right? run 3" round off the turbo then transition to 3" oval ?

keep in mind, i'm doing this ONLY to be "different" nothing more so if it can't be done, I won't make extra work for myself, I just feel that shiny tips out the back, is getting a bit overdone...

yeah, what he said! or just squish my 3" myself where I need to..

As for the jacking points, I'm not concerned, infact it's that contact point with the rocker that causes the rockers to rust. I'm ditching the jacking points.

I can see this project is going to be a bit more brain than brawn....
