300D Radiator Leak

Hello All,
I just got back from a short drive here in town. I got out and popped the hood because I saw some smoke coming up. The radiator cap was leaking some liquid?? Does anyone know what that is telling me?

At a minimum it's telling you that it's leaking fluid. Was the cap on tight? Was the engine overheating? Are you talking about the cap on the expansion tank?

The have not ever seen the temp high on the gauge. I will check closely next time I'm in it. It was the cap on the radiator. I will make sure it is on there tight once it cools down.

Can you clarify what car you are referring to? I took it to be the 84 300d but I thought they did not have a cap on the radiator, only on the expansion tank.

Yeah it is the 300 D 1984. I am referring to the silver and red spin on cap on top of the radiator. I am trying to figure out how to get a pic to attach so that I can be elaborate. Do you know how I can get my pictures from my camera to be under the 73 KB cut off???

I was able to edit a pic using the the standard software in my pictures. Pull up pic, right click> edit> you'll see a dotted line box> click and drag, right click again hit clear selection, continue. I also enlarged the edit shot. When done, I sent to my docs. I'm sure after-market software is easier.

The radiator, I'm surprised you have a cap on it. Hopefully, that was steam, after it has cooled down, check fluid level. Do you have an expansion tank?

My guess is your radiator cap is bad. Have you pressure tested the cap? The caps arent just for keeping coolent in the expansion tank/radiator they also raise the boiling point and keep pressure in the cooling system.

So my guess would be that you have a bad cap and the wrong cap. You say silver and red which is probably the aftermarket crap they sell at your local parts place.

Get the correct cap and pressure check your cooling system at 1.2 bar.
