Another Climate Control troubleshoot

Just posting to help troubleshoot my climate control issues. This is on a 85 300D. When the key is in the accessory position, the blower works and blows when any button is pressed. When the engine starts none of the buttons work. I have replaced the blower motor brushes since that was an easy, cheap, and eliminates other problems. The blower works when hard wired. Do I need to look at the CCU and check for bad solder joints? That is my next suspect. Any suggestions on what it could be? Just want a second opinion before I dig into the dash.

Couple of threads on this recently. Other people have found the problem lies in the key switch. Try moving the key slightly backwards towards the accessory position once the engine is running and see if it solves the problem.

I recently removed my CCU and had a look at the solder joints. I too was having some intermittent blower issues so I figured it would be worth a look. Lo and behold, I DID find three cracked joints at one end of the unit where the large circuit board (CB) and the smaller side (vertical or perpendicular) CB is soldered together! That seems to have corrected the problem to this point!

Hope that helps...

Aha! It is the ignition/key switch. I jiggled the key and it worked. For now I will remember to just jiggle the key but I will pick up a new switch soon. Thanks for the help!
