Euro Wagon in LA

Check this out. Euro 300TD in unbeliebable shape. Click on the link in the text for the detailed photos. Some unusual options on the console and I guess the A/C is aftermarket but I'd take it if I had the money.

2 problems here. One of them really, REALLY important.

That is a beautiful wagon, but I would need TWO things cleared up.

1. It is touted as a 1983. The California blue plate alphanumeric sequence on it is xxxVFA.

I used to have a 1978 Chevy Nova sedan (it was sold new at Angelus Chevrolet, a Los Angeles dealer, in about April 1978) the alpha numeric license plate number on that car was 440VFB. It was a company car.

Those kinds of license plates are NOT transferable. There is NO reason why a 1978 issue plate that is not personalized and NOT transferable could EVER possibly be legally affixed to a 1983 model automobile. I am very familiar with California law on that. There is no question about that, something is not right. On the face of it, is is illegal.

For me this stops EVERYTHING ice cold. If there is an explanation for this (Plate affixed to the car for photo shoot purposes, etc.) I would need to hear it.

The correct plate should be, in a 1983 car, 1Gxx xxx or anything later.
And in California you are legally required to affix TWO of them to the car.
This car only sports ONE, the 1978 xxxVFA plate, on the rear.

The plate could be borrowed or stolen. But NEVER, ever legally issued for that car. Not EVER. Something is VERY wrong here.

An explanation is needed.

for more information on this, see: www.calpl8s.com

2. The fire extinguisher is claimed to be a factory installed original. I question that claim, and don't believe it.

It is NOT a factory original fire extinguisher from Mercedes Benz. I have one, that I bought from a forum member here, (Carson 357) who sold it to me in an ebay auction. It looks nothing at all like this cheesy one. Carson removed
it from a 1985 280SL euro that he was selling.

Also, a forum member here called Camelot Shadow purchased a 1983 (same year as THIS car is claimed to be) 500SEC euro and its factory Mercedes Benz fire extinguisher is identical to mine. She posted pictures of the fire extinguisher in her thread.
A true euro 1983 Mercedes Benz 2kg fire extinguisher should look like this
(Scroll to post 86):

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=197661&highlight=big+red&page=6

I question the claim that it is not a cheap aftermarket one, but rather a factory Mercedes Benz one. The factory would NOT install cheap aftermarket fire extinguishers.

So, if that is a misstatement, are there others that are made? And how many?

I am NOT calling the seller a thief or a liar, BUT for this car, which is being offered for ALL the money, those questions need to be addressed, and answered honestly.

Those are only two troublesome things with that car. The seller seems pretty sophisticated about Mercedes, the ad copy is very persuasive, and the pictures are good ones, and he sure wants ALL the money for that car.

So, for this price, Everything needs to be turnkey PERFECT. No missing headlight wipers, clocked odometer stories, holes in the muffler, nothing.

This could be a trap for the unwary, if you ask me. Were no explanations for what I saw, forthcoming, I would run away, fast, even if $12,000 was in my budget for a car like this.
