Value of diesel

I saw for sale a 1983 240D. I am not a diesel expert. Car has 29,000 miles. What would be a realistic ballpark range of what this car would be worth?

thanks for any info!
Fred

That thing is worthless. Pass on it, and send me the contact info for it.

Depends on the condition.

diesel.. is about $3.41 a gallon...

oh.. the car..

well.. the odometers are known to fail on these cars.. but not that early. If it has been sitting for a while or wasn't driven as much it might be in the same condition as a $500 special since seals like to shrink over time and such.. Then it is a load of fun replacing them all.. etc etc

Fred....one more year older and it could be registered as an antique.
29,000 miles...if thats correct, means an average of +1200 miles per year....where has the car been stored and maintained? If this car looks as good as the meager 29,000 miles then it is probably worth alot more than you think you want to pay. A comparable gas model would sell for about 30% less than the diesel in the Northeast. Up here ....just about anything that rolls with high mileage, has no rust and can pass inspection sells for $3500 or more...even a Saturn. I'd rather drive a 240D with 29,000 miles than a used Saturn any day of the week!

how is the paint, interior, body, glass, rubber seals, was it stored inside? what color is it, really, there are SOOOO many questions that "29000 miles" just doesn't cover. shoot us some pics, and a good walk around, post vin, post how many owners, and post if it has RECORDS that prove the milage, and we can talk.
I can take all the odometers in my yard, and set them to 15K does that make the cars more valuable?
it is VERY simple to change or roll back the odometers in these cars. proof is in the condition.

Have not seen the car yet. Its blue. Said to be excellent. Asking $16,000. Wondering if that is realistic at all. Seemed a tad high to me but I am no diesel expert.... I realize they may be searching for the special buyer who would pay...

An '82 240D w/ 29,000 orig miles if it is "excellent" is basically still new.

So based on that variable, given it is a true preseved classic, it is worth actually more than the new sticker price it had in '82.

I don't know what that is, but somewhere around the 20k range, so if you can get it for 16, and you can afford it, and you want it ........grab it.

Should the car be driven regularly expect it to depreciate accordingly. If it were me and I was going to buy it $$ aside. I would jump on anything that even remotely detracted from it being flawless and would not drive it daily. That will help keep its value up there.

A few years down the road if it has 100,000 miles on it, what do you think it is worth? Not suggesting it a positive or a negative. Just something to consider.

new price in 83 for a 240 D would be around 14-18K depending on options. it was the very lowest priced model. IF it has a manual, and IF it is in truly amazing condition. and IF EVERYTHING in the car works perfectly, it MIGHT be worth 16K. but not to me.

I don't know whether or not somebody would pay that much, but it sure isn't worth it.
It only has that value it you continue not to drive it, and what is the enjoyment in that? It actually hasn't been driven enough if those miles are correct.

Except for all the rubber parts, paint...

$16K is a bit much in my opinion.
