Hmmm........two switchover valves. Hopefully, they both operate the EGR and the ARV in some fashion.............I've not seen a vacuum diagram with that setup.

I don't have to much concern about it, provided that the vacuum to the VCV is intact and the orifices as shown in the schematic are still in place.

How's the transmission?

Are you fellows referring to item 125 as the second switchover valve?

This detail controls the transmission when cold...........and you don't need to remove it from the system.

Yes 125. I understand. Switchover valve 125 should remain as it goes to the blue flying saucer which is involved with the transmission. Just remove the vacuum line at 63b and plug that port so vacuum is not lost.

I do have the blue flying saucer, I guess I overlooked it since it's not bolted in but just "hanging around" I guess I need to study this new diagram.. no hurry though, my primer is gushing fuel and sucking as much air as I do when I run in the morning. The part is in the mail and hopefully I will get it in time for the weekend, along with my shutoff valve

raslaje,

could you post the part number off both valves, and also give me the general location of both of yours? All of mine are unmounted thanks to the PO, but the wire connectors of both right above the driver's side wheel well

It appears that our documentation is in error.

Do both of you fellows have Federal '85's..........meaning not "California"?

I believe the vacuum amplifier is on all federal '85's...........thereby confirming the second vacuum diagram in post 32 as the proper vacuum diagram.

If so, I need to make some corrections to the titles in the vacuum diagrams.

Thanks. Then, our vacuum diagram titles are definitely in error.

I'll get it fixed.

In any case, the switchover valve that belongs with the amplifier (blue flying saucer) can remain in the system. It softens the shifts when cold, if you prefer that.

Since mine is already out, can I expect any extra wear and tear if i don't put it back in? I already tend to sort of cue my shifts with the accelerator pedal, so I have never experienced any excessively rough shifts.

Actually, the firmer the shift, the greater the longevity of the transmission. The reason for softer shifts is ass related.........not mechanical durablilty related.

Then it looks as though more changes to the document I sent you are in order. Can you confirm that the vacuum restricted orifice is the one that causes a softer shift, and can you confirm that this is the only thing the "flying saucer" is used for?

Nope, the document you sent me is perfect. It's the second vacuum switchover valve near the amplifier that causes the softer shifts.........only when cold.

vacuum issues

Brian - I was looking at your by-pass intructions. Will this affect the door locks or a.c. system? I have a leak somewhere and its making the center a.c. vents not work as well as poor shut-off, slow door locks, hard AT shifting. Any ideas. I am new to this vacuum stuff.
