Question Can anybody guess why my hands smell like cat piss?

Well I finally found a topic nobody's discussed before. After unplugging my block heater this morning, coiling up the extension cord and leaving it by the garage and heading off to work, about 1/2 block away I noticed my fingers smelled something awful.

Why do cats love to piss on electrical cords? Has anybody ever figured that out? An electromagnetic field must be like freaking catnip to them.

Has anybody else ever had this problem? C'mon.......fess up.

Bert

and I was going to guess that you picked up a pissing cat.....LOL

Is it just the plastic on the extension cord? I've smelled some awful plastic before; but it never reminded me of cat piss.

Cats mark (spray) territory like dogs.

I guess that cord hanging down is new territory to them... odd. piss on tires, yes. pis on cords? nope never seen it before.
you could "fray" the wires a bit, so the liquid will conduct a charge... kinda deterrent to me.

I've noticed that Auto transmission fluid and cat pee do smell somewhat alike. So it may be that our furry feline friends are not responsible for this situation

Suddenly my morning coffee has a strange odor and doesn't taste the same.

Explain that to me?

Toms (male cats) mark their territory with pee. Once one cat goes somewhere, any tom that comes within a mile of that spot will want to join in the, well ... pissing match. I don't think cats have any interest in electrical cords. More likely, one cat went on your cord as a coincidence, and because of that, it's now a hot spot. Occasionally neuters do even do this (my family has one who isn't allowed inside because he'll tag anything he can find), and we even had a spay who did it. I love cats, they're by far my favorite animal, but their spraying habits are admittedly intolerable sometimes. There's not really anything you can do about it. Maybe dump some cat piss in your neighbors' yard ... then all the cats will flock to that site and ignore your cord.

Thanks for the replies

Well I guess I'll be wiping down my extension cord with alcohol or something like that tonight.

I always wind the cord up over the hood ornament so it doesnt touch the ground near the end of the cord. It keeps it out of puddles and keeps me from forgetting to unplug.
