Put a new ALDA on...and found something

ok here is what I did... I put a new alda on my 617 since I broke the old one and removed it.. I've been driving it sans alda for maybe 6 months now and getting... 21 mpg for the most part. So today I decided to be productive and put a my new ALDA on.

Well.. I put it on and put the shim(well the shim that I think came with it) into the hole and screwed the alda into place... step 1 done

step two was to fix and shorten the ALDA boost line that came with my car.. so I am fiddeling around with it and I feel something drop into my shoe.. I take my shoe off and I find a BB!!!... two more fall out of a rubber section(repair?)... AHA!!!

some idiot blocked off the ALDA line in the past.. which would explain for the cruddy performance even when I had a working ALDA.

I adjusted it to my liking (no smoke at any point...) and discovered the exhaust bracket was loose and tightened that as well(no more rattles!!)..

So now my engine is back to spec and running quieter than before. Plus the rpms at idle are back down to around 800..nice!

Good day today

At the risk of asking an overly elementary question, what is an ALDA? I did search that, but all I got were mentions of "ALDA," no definition. Is it an acronym for something? Please pardon my ignorance . . .

the ALDA is an altitude sensing/boost pressure device that limits fuel at take off from a full stop.

so if your car is a bit sluggish it might be time to remove the banjo bolt on the intake and the one on the ALDA and clean them out.. do a search and you will find out

ALDA is an acronym for some weird german words

It is a fuel cut off device. When the engine is at idle it is receiving less than full fuel. As boost increases the ALDA takes the signal and opens the fuel up. Try using the google search.

So do all 61x engines have them?

For some reason I have this idea that only the turbos do, and not my little 240D. But I am not sure if that is true.

Only the turbos since a boost sensing device wouldn't be necessary on an engine that lacks a turbo to produce boost....

I think I've heard that non-turbos do have some sort of altitude sensor that compensates fuel delivery depending on your altitude.

Well I read this on some post months ago and wrote it down on the
definition.

A.L.D.A. Automatische Ladedruck Anreicherung.

Air pressure in turbo charger dependent automatic fuel delivery adjustment.

Even my lowly little Datsun SD22 Diesel engine came with one.
It`s just and altitude compensator, works off barameric pressure.
cuts the fuel back some in relation to the amount of air. at higher altitude
there is less pressure, so less oxygen. then that equals to black smoke
unless the fuel is cut back some.

The one on the Mercedes works off boost pressure with the turbo.
the one on my Datsun works only on barametric pressure.
the none turbo MB probably work the same.

hope I didn`t muddy up the waters too much here.

I could have sworn it was Luftdruck not Ladedruck. There is an ALA, ADA and ALDA. One is atmospheric, one is boost pressure and ALDA is both.

Well, shoot! I don't know why folks don't just say, "Aneroid Compensator," then.
