300 SD transmission fluid pours in reverse
On my 85 300 SD a steady flow of transmission fluid pours out when in reverse only. It backs up fine but will always leave a trail of fluid until you put it in a forward gear. Any thoughts on what might cause this?

Wash/degrease it good, and back up some ramps, park, and go look for fluid on it.
I am betting its a bad seal on a cover or something.... Others will have other ideas I'm sure.... |
On mine, when it used to do exactly what you're describing, it turned out to be the front seal. Mine finally when out completely and fluid poured out constantly.
I think I've also read on here that it'll do this if the B2 piston cover leaks. Perhaps search through some of the more recent B2 piston threads.
Can either the front seal or the b2 piston cover gasket be replaced without dropping the transmission?
B2 yes, front seal no.
I am pretty sure the fluid is coming from the grate looking thing at the bottom of the transmission.
if what ur talkin abot is in front of the pan, then thats your torque converter, however it could be ur b2
Mine only leaked when put in D but wouldn't move. It was the B2 cover seal . It still wouldn't go forward even after I replaced the seal. I have to try to replace the B2 piston bushing now to see if that helps. It didn't leak when put in reverse.
