1984 300SD Temp sensor question (Pic)

I know the sensor on the right is the water temp guage sensor. What's the sensor on the left? It's on the head between cylinders 1 and 2 on the drivers side.

Thanks!

However, the hard, almost impossible cold starting just turned to hard starting after I put on the plug that is positioned between the #1 and #2 cylinders. The vacuum hose (I think) had fallen off somehow and made starting a PITA. Once I repositioned back on, it solved quite a bit of my problem. I am still glad I changed the glow plugs but I say this as an information point in case anyone else is having the same problem.

Thanks!
From a previous thread.....

That is the same sensor that became disconnected on my 300SD and started my cold morning hard starting problem. I still don't know what it is but I do know it contributed to my almost impossible cold starting problem. Thankfully, an oil change to synthetic, reconnecting the line on the sensor and replacing all glow plugs (in that order) now makes for effortless cold morning starts.

just curious

since you've got a 300 SD, i was wondering if you wouldn't mind helping me out with a little advice? i just picked up an 82, and it wouldn't even turn over. i tapped the starter and bought a new battery and got her to turn over, she almost wanted to start, but didn't. i was pretty happy just to get it to turn over. it has a full tank of diesel, that quality of which i'm not sure, since it's been sitting for at least 6monts, that's what the kid told me. i bought the car to learn and don't really care what happens to it, but would love to get some advice on how to approach the problem. thanks.

You make this statement on a forum dedicated to keeping these wonders alive and then ask for help????

That's a funny way to start off an association....

So, are your glow plugs working? What have you done so far outside of the battery and tapping the starter? Did you buy a real Diesel battery or the cheapest one you could find? Have you changed the filters?

Why was the car parked in the first place?

It is for the glowplug timer, it lets the timer know how long it should keep the glow light on in the dash.

You should start a new thread instead of hijacking somebody else's thread.

Neither of my cars have any sensor there, just a plug.

His is an 84, so I was wrong. It is for the EGR computer.

I've done some more research. I think it's the AC lock out sensor based on other rather bad photos I've reviewed. Can anyone call BS on that?

Mudluscious - You should be able to tell by my question that I'm not equipped to give anyone repair advice at this point. Please start your own thread.

The AC Lock out sensor is on the thermostat housing on the 1984 300 TD
it sits right next to the EGR Vacuum switch on that housing. The MB Part number is 005 545 6324
It is a single terminal switch operates at 37 degrees C

MB Price Canada is 136.68 plus tax.

Would you happen to have the 2007 price?

Does that mean the price in 2007 or the price for a 2007 vehicle?
