Anyone ever installed a third brake light in a w123?

Wagon or sedan?
I'm thinking of putting in a third light in the back window of my wagon, and was wondering if anyone had any input as to a decent brand/style of light. I'm thinking of something simple and self contained that I can just wire off of the main brake lights.

Last winter I got rear ended on the highway in a storm, and I think more brake lighting (and maybe more regular tail lights) would help be seen easier. All these new cars have huge tail/brake lights, and although they're ugly as sin sometimes, you sure can see the buggers.

If I come up with something nice, I'll post some pics.
Thanks,
-Geoff

Don't get me wrong but I think 3rd brake lamps look retarded. OTH, it might keep retards, who think paying attention isn't important while driving, from rear ending you.

We have them in both of our SD's but haven't gotten around to doing it in the 300D.....I did put in 26watt brake bulbs in the D though, they're quite bright! Here's a pic of my dad's car with ALL the brake light mods 87 watts of light! The upper LED bar is actually a lot brighter than that in person, its due to the camera adjusting for the light from the lower lamps that it looks so dim. It was about $15 on ebay....sticks to the window, works great. No more rear-endings so far.

I've got one off a 05 SL500 I plan on adapting to my wagon, it definitly needs more brake lighting back there. I do worry about getting rear ended in it.

I have one in the 300D (from the PO). I don't really like the looks, but I drive a lot and it probably does reduce my chances of getting rear-ended so I've kept it.

Unarguably: it is a GREAT safety idea.

This is a FANTASTIC idea.

They really DO work to cut down on rear enders, and they look well integrated if behind the window glass and the unit did not look cheesy.

San Francisco ordered them put on the ugly early 80s Dodge Diplomats and a study ordered. The rear ender crashes sent WAY down. It was documented conclusively that they worked.

If you ever got your back or neck hurt, from a rear end car wreck, you'd agree that they are worth it. To hell with aesthetic considerstions.

They became mandatory in the 1986 model year for ALL cars sold in the USA

Unfortunately, the last W123 sold in the USA were the ones from 1985 MY.

So it is a very pertinent and relevant issue. I am glad it came up again.
When I get my W123 finally, I will definately put one in it.
