Cant find Zerex G-05 antifreeze/coolnet!!

Is anyone else not seeing this coolent on the shelves at your local mcparts store? Ive been to 2 autozones 3 kragens and a napa. No zerex g-05 on the shelves! The employee's were no help either, they just recommend the green stuff

Is there something going on with valvoline?

Napa is the ONLY mc-parts store that I have ever found to carry it.

See if any of them are carrying "Peak Global". It's a gold colored antifreeze, the label has the flags of 30 or 40 different countries on it to illustrate the "global". It seems to be as good or better as Zerex/MB. I've been using it for 40 thousand miles with no problems, and it came recommended by the indy we took the car to the one time we had to.

I had to search around to find the stuff. I finally did find it at an AutoZone. However, the clerk was telling me when I bought it that they just got it back on the shelves. Apparently they had pulled it from the shelves a couple of months earlier (he didn't know the reason) and had just got the okay to put it back. Maybe some sort of recall? That's a guess. If you don't find it on the shelf, you might want to ask if they did stock it and if they plan on stocking it again in the near future.

Carquest should have it in stock. They own Worldpac so they can get just about anything for these cars. Prices are kind of high compared to Fastlane though.

I hate to say this, because it implies that I've stepped foot in to one of their establishments, but I know that a few Wal-Marts in my area carry it.

I hate Wal-Mart, but when you need something that they have and no one else does, I'll buy it there. I feel dirty for days afterwards.

All the stores i went to normally stocked it, and ive bought 2 bottles of it recently at kragens. But just today when i was changing the brakes on my dads W123 i strip tested his coolent and it was due for a change. Unfortunatley none of the 3 main stores carried it.

Imma have to try pep boys. The car quest's around here mainly sell to mechanics only (just the same with worldpac and SSF) havent really seen any 'open to public' carquests in my area so if worst comes to worse ill just pay the extra cash at the dealer.

Just get you a Tax ID from the state and a DBA. Problem solved.

FWIW - AutoZoo here had three gallons hiding in the back, not on display. I bought them. No reason why they were not on regular display.

I like the Peak Global in my gasoline cars, but I don't believe that it is diesel rated, it is an OAT which M-B cautions against, and it is not M-B approved.

Forgive me asking.......

What has the type of fuel you burn got to do with the coolant? A diesel engine runs a similar operating temperatures..... a radiator is a radiator is a radiator, isn't it?

Reebies here in sac has loads on the shelf.
Also, FWIW the carquest in orangevale caters to mechanics, but will sell to individuals and can order the G-05

In a wet-sleeve engine I know that Molybdates and Nitrates are important to prevent cavitation-pitting, I'm not sure how critical that is in a dry-sleeve engine but that's the main thing that sets them apart AFAIK. Might be other things.

The easy answer is to just use the ones that are approved.

As far as the PEAK Global, an M-B link was posted a while ago and in that M-B FAQ OAT (Peak Global et al) was specifically addressed, and M-B's official position was that the OAT technology has some problems in testing with protecting the metals in the M-B engine properly. I hope someone finds that link (a large PDF with photos & Data).

Anti-freeze is cheap, engines are expensive. Ditto with lubricants.
