any idea why a/f element gets oily in 30 days?

veh 85 td 175k very little blowby but every mo. 5 wks a/f el 1s still clean but oily. no need to add lube between 3k changes. any info ? thnks bng /

That happens when o blows thru the b/t on the v/c, into the a/f.

Actually, I cured that issue a couple of years ago by sealing all the seams in the oil separator with silicon glue. Disassemble and clean the separator (very well), then reassemble with all the seams sealed. The oil vapor is supposed to go into the separator, not all over the filter element.

My '85 Cali did not have a oil separator. If your car does not have one you can get a external separator from a late 240D or use one intended for a different vehicle. I have one from a Cessna on my 240D turbo.
