300CD. Any ideas where this part goes?

Managed to fix the rear lhs quarter window on the 300cd today – turned out to be a bad solder joint on the brush carrier for the window motor. While in there, I cleaned and re-lubed the motor, regulator gears and sliders. Window works great now :D

Although I was careful to note all fastener and wiring locations during disassembly of the rear seat and rear lhs panel pieces, I missed this piece of material and now cannot figure out where it goes

Dimensions are 14½” x 4”. Any ideas where this goes?

Cheers!

when you took off the metal cover that needed to be removed to get to the window motor assembly ,that piece lies on top ,held on only by the window gasket ,some kind of noise baffel .I recently pulled a rear window motor out of a yard on a 300cd.the steps were to take the exterior chrome flashing off,the interior panel ,the upper metal plate over the window mechanism ,the bolts that hold the mechanism. The bolt that held the little tray over the regulator was easy but hard ,ill never forget my open wrench set again.

300CD - R & R rear windows

Appreciate the update.

I did eventually figure this out after removing the RHS rear panel - to fix the other rear window which was sticking on the way up.

Welded supports to the rear window brackets - to prevent flexing at the point where the regulator arm connects.

Got the RHS back together and the window works great. However, I lost a flat spring clip - used to secure the regulator arm to the window bracket - on the LHS.

The clip slots into a groove on this spindle (see red circle area in pic) of the window bracket. Darn :( Not to sure this will be available at the local hardware store. Any ideas on where to get a replacement?

Cheers!

If so, I have a few laying around. Same clip that is used extensively, I had misplaced one that holds on the throttle linkage, got some new ones, easy to lose, found the old one.
May be able to use a snap ring, not something you want to have to check on.

The spindle on the window bracket is 6mm in diameter, I wonder if the clip in your link will work.....?

Checked with my local MB dealer. The clip is not available as a separate part. The complete window bracket is $218 + tax

Cheers!

Clip

I'll look through my bag of tricks. I think I have several sizes.

This is a shot of the one that came off, and I found later.
It measures 5/16, or 8mm.

Just tried the clip from the throttle linkage. It's the right style of clip, but the hole is too large for the window bracket spindle.

Just spent another hour searching the garage. Can't believe I lost that clip!

In the meantime, I'll keep searching the internet.

Cheers!

Think I may have found a supplier http://www.springfixlinkages.com/contact.htm

The actual clip I'm looking for is SLM 6 - see product list at this link http://www.springfixlinkages.com/metric_slm_fasteners.htm#

Have sent them an email so will see what happens.

Cheers!

the panels that go under the rear quarter windows (i believe you would have to remove them to get the the rear window motor- looks like its stapled from the inside?), any tricks on putting those back on. someone pulled them off of the cd i bought (i believe looking for speakers ) and i would like to put them back on before my kids cut their fingers on the staples.

I used the following procedure to remove/replace my interior rear quarter panels:

1. Take out the rear seat (seat back and bottom).

2. Remove the left and right plastic panels - between the rear screen and the rear quarter windows (the panels with cut-outs for the rear seat belts). Gently lever the edges and they pop-off.

3. You will now have access to a screw securing the top of the interior rear quarter panel. Undo the screw.

4. Remove chome trim above the door striker (three small screws)

5. Lift the rear quarter panel up and forwards (towards front of car). Be careful not to detach the metal trim on top of the panel near the window rubber. Note; there are 4 clips that secure the top of the panel to a bracket that holds the rubber window strip. Once these clips are free the panel will come away.

Reverse the above steps to replace the panels.

Gotcha when replacing the panels
  • Be sure to hook the very rear of the panel under the rear window carpet. I forgot to do this and had to completely remove the panel and start over
  • Take your time aligning the 4 clips that secure the top of the panel to a bracket that holds the rubber window strip.
Cheers!

Do you mean the arm rests?

...or the padded area of the panel - above the rear window switch?
