I believe it. The tranny needed to be rebuilt in the 85 I owned at just over 110K by the original owner.

Watch out with that kick down switch. Mine would get stuck occasionally and would not upshift. It got so problematic that I actually wired in a manual switch so it would upshift.

I don`t know if the 85 trans in weaker than any other year, we have
334000 miles on it and it shifts, kicks up/down just fine.

1980 w116 300SD w/ 617.150 if mine is "CA version" according to brochure that came with the car. But whats the difference aside from having first edition EGR?

Seriously whats the major diffs between CA and normal 617's??

On the W116, the EGR. In 84, the ARV on the turbo. In 85, the addition of the TrapOx before the turbo.

Thank you ForcedInduction, then basically we're talkin 3 single mechanical component additions bein EGR, Recirc Valve and TrapOx chamber. I was scared it might include other stupid stuff like flat camshaft lobes and lesser compression ratio as with US version MB 450 V-8's..

Always seemed weird to me that USA "pollution measures" handicap fuel economy and engine efficiency like its been forbidden to market and merchandise 22+mpg luxury sedans here.

Thats the problem with the TrapOx models. They increase HC, CO2, CO and NOx emissions, lower fuel economy, lower reliability and increase costs, just to look cleaner out the tailpipe to the naked eye. The only "benefit" is very little smoke out the tailpipe.

They are still the same 'ol reliable 617, just with some extra junk added on.

I need your assistance.

I'm trying to sort out the correct vacuum diagrams for the CA vehicles. I don't believe the '84CA vehicle is identical to the '85Fed vehicle because the '84 won't have the vacuum transducer (blue flying saucer) that controls the transmission.

Can you kindly look under the hood of the '84 and compare it to this CA diagram and see if it's identical?

Brian, from what I remember, you might be correct about the vacuum transducer. I don't recall seeing one. But then again a lot of the vacuum stuff is missing. I won't be able to look under the hood until some of the snow melts from around my car. We've had some major snow over the last week. It's sitting in the field right now in about two feet of snow around it with almost as much on top of it.

As far as I remember if it has the vacuum transducer (blue saucer by the brake booster) it's an 84 or 85.
