I had one too. I was very familiar with all the differences since I tried to rid my car of all that crap.

I jut remembered, my 84 is also a Cali version. It's supposed to be the same as an 85 fed.

Heck, at least we have the 2:88 rear end and the slightly improved tranny.

I have the same vacuum crap the 85 fed does. I wonder what axle the 84 Cali has? I know it doesn't have the 85's tranny.

I dont know whats wrong with all the extra vac stuff, my transmission shifts incredibly smooth!

And yes, the rear end is boss. off the line, its slower but the top end is much better and your cruising rpm's are much nicer. And whats up with the kickdown, when you floor it it kicks down, but when you floor it enough to activate the kickdown switch it kicks down even more! At first, i thought I had a five speed, but I guess its just something they could do since they had the different rear end in it. Yeah, so my car kicks down twice. Does anyone else's do that?

And what advances were made to the transmissions that make them a little better?

Higher stall speed torque converter. Other than that the 85 tranny is supposedly weaker.
