Heat - choice of all or nothing

Heat issue on my 300cd. I have two choices on heat. All or nothing.

As I move the dial it will produce great heat on the Max setting, but as soon as rotate it out of max, it cools off, and I am back to ambient air in 30 seconds. I have no heat control unless it is on the Max setting.

Does that sound like a rhestat solder problem.....Just guessing.

I would check the foam tube that goes from the temperature sensor to the opening (on a W126 it is in the middle of the dash). If it has deteriorated you will pull warm air from the inside of the dash into the sensor and it will shut off the heat. That is what happened in my 300SD. I replaced the tube with a piece of foam pip insulation wrapped in electrical tape and it has worked for two years.

I have the same problem too with super hot, or nothing. Thanks for the help!

BTW, I have over 30,000 miles on a LoveCraft system.

I had that problem and replaced the climate control unit and now much better. Found a reconditioned one on eBay that works pretty well (fingers crossed). Was around $100 I think. Easy plug 'n play replacement, too. Probably I'm just lucky that it wasn't the mono valve and I would have wasted $$ on the CCU when I didn't need to.
