Arrow Inside air going no where?!?!

A few pictures are worth many words!!
My question is this, what route does the inside air take to evacuate through these vents that are on each side of the quarter panels on a 123 model.Does the air pass through the upper belt buckles above the rear seat back,or from somewhere else?
To much condensation is building up inside the vehicle and air is not evacuating...

I think those are rain gutters... but I could be wrong. The condensation (if there is a lot) could be due to a water leak somewhere in the car. Just a little water on the floor will get on the windows. If you can't fix the leak immediately, just open the windows a little and it won't fog up as much.

I know for a fact that air does evacuate from those vents if thats what they are called, but I don't now witch route they take to evacuate through there!
My neighbor has the same car as me and his has air coming through these so called vents!
I just want to save myself some time from tearing everything apart and looking in the right or wrong area.

Question

Heres an update guy's!
After taking the seat back and seat cushion out, removing the inner quarter trim, all I found was no vents there what so ever.I swore I felt air coming out of that outside trim on that other car!

So now I'm very confused!!

If you get the chance, post a pic of the outside looking at the gap between the pillar and the black trim piece.

Who ever might have a 1983 123 out there....Start your diesel and put the heater on,now shut all your windows and close all the doors, and check to see if any air is coming out those two vents behind the rear doors!
Something has got to give!

I just tried with my '82. With the fan on high, there is a very noticeable amount of air coming out of those vents on both sides.

I will have to wait for day break here, and check in the trunk to see if there is any passage way for the air flow just above the inner wheel wells?
Ummmm What do you think!

I have no idea, it must be ducted to those vents somehow. The air velocity coming through the rear vents is similar to what you would feel from the dash vents with the fan on a medium setting.

Hey Dan, you got something sorta figured out! I can't think of anywhere that would come from. You have the inside trim off, right? No direct vent, who would want cold air blowing on their ear anyway, when the fan is not on. Has to be baffled somehow. Is the air warm? If so, I doubt it would be coming from the trunk. Would have to come from the cabin.
A pressure equalization thing?
My CD does not have this, I think. Doesn't have the extra black trim thing behind the rear side window, anyway. Also, when I close the door, I notice I need more effort with the windows closed, so at home I lower the rear passenger window a bit to let the air pressure escape, reducing wear on the door striker.
Have not checked the SD.

A bit impatient, huh, Bens lover? 25 minutes too long to wait for an answer on this extremely urgent issue?

Anyhow, I have an idea of how the air travels. I have a 300td, so I have no direct experience with your body style, but it's probably like other European cars of the era. Most likely, the air exits the cabin through slots at the bottom of the rear window, travels though a channel inside the rear shelf, out to the C-pillars, and up and out the C-pillars. This way, the

Are you sure the HVAC is not on recirculate? Is the HVAC pulling air in? Put a smoke trail from incense or a cigarette up against the grilles in front of the windshield and see if it's drawn in. Also try cracking open a window about 1/2" and seeing if air comes out that way; if not, the C-pillar vents aren't the issue.

Dan, the usual cause of condesation noticeable on the windows of a car is that air is just recirculating inside the car. Meaning outside air is NOT being introduced by the ventilation/heater blower. I would check if the air intakes are plugged up. I believe the intakes are the grilles infront of the windshield.

For air not to condense on the glass (in the winter) the cabin must be in a positive pressure. To attain this, some outside air has to be drawn by the blower and supplied to the inside.

You will notice this in newer vehicles that have a recirc mode. If you set the controls to recirc, you will notice the windows will start condensing.

Since this circa of cars do not have a recirc mode, its most likely a blocked air intake. The blockage could also be inside the fan box or an inoperable damper module. Hope this helps.
