617 into a W124 Wagon.

Well, the motor has bit the dust in my wagon, and instead of installing another gas motor, I was thinking of converting it to a diesel....

I got two crazy diesel friends who say I should do it... We got an extra motor too...

Should I?

Two valves are burnt in cylinder 6.

Its got low compression on cylinder 6, and the piston is burnt.

No way to make the rear suspension work with a 617 unless you rig up an electric pump or the 617 was from a 300TD.

Conventional Suspension.

I never carry a load. SLS doesnt matter to me. It works perfect, but I never use it.

I have pictures of a conventional suspension W124 Wagon.

Why not just stick a 603 in? Its alot easier to find a 5 speed for it

The 617 is indestructible.

Not to mention, it is super reliable, and parts are plentiful.

Same seems to be true of the 603. (as long as its not overheated)

Hmm. I don't know, but I would think the 617 would have issues with the low gear rear end... OTOH, several 617 owners have put in 2.47:1 rears before... as spunky as that car is with a gas motor, or a 603, I would think a 617 would be pretty pathetic... comparatively... sounds good to me though. I like my 617's... kinda want a 603 though.
I bet you would have little issues rigging the tandem pump up to work.

Thats why I am going to convert it to conventional if I do a diesel swap.

It will be fairly quick I would imagine.

M Pump and Fat Turbo.

You're in California. I wouldn't. I think you need to buy a true diesel w124.
