i decided to make a morning out of working on my 83 300SD. I first fixed my extremely corroded, coffee filled, window switch that had so much stuff stuck in i should have seen plants coming out. Well with that fixed i decided to fix the door check strap, and at the same time fix the drivers side seat switch that was jammed. Well upon taking it apart etc i noticed it had another switch that the passenger one did not have when i had that one apart. It almost looks like a headrest button? i couldnt even figure out how to put the button back together correctly so i just kind of guessed, and everything works fine now, but i still want to know what that switch does. any ideas? did the 560sel have a power headrest in this year? thanks

I think I know what you mean. It looks like the end of the switch, like the tip of it was cut off? They stopped making the switch without the head rest switch, so to replace it on your car, the tip of the headrest switch is cut off and the trim panel is then put on, which conceals the fact that it isn't really the "right" switch. Everything works and looks normal, so it doesn't really matter, everyone is happy. The passenger side switch has probably never been replaced, so it's still like it originally was, usually the drivers seat switch goes bad first..
